The Sunshine Law and Why It Is Important “
Having been on the equestrian preserve board and as chair of the Planning, Zoning and Adjustment Board for the village of Wellington, I’d like to explain what the Sunshine Law is all about. When you become a member of any of the boards in the village of Wellington, and especially on the council, you are asked to swear to an oath that you will follow the rules of the Sunshine Law. This law requires that even though you may be socializing with other members of your board or counsel, you are not allowed to discuss Any details of Any project or subject that is coming before you. It is meant to prevent you from influencing any of the members on the board with you to vote in a particular way. You are not supposed to make any decisions until you have heard all the facts from both sides of a particular subject before you make your decision. Unfortunately., I believe that many of our board members on all the boards and council, frequently and maybe conveniently forget this law, which makes it difficult for the public at large to trust that their decisions have not already been made before the vote.
