Who Else Decides What Gets Built Here? A Look at Rep. Gerwig's Record in Tallahassee

If you care about protecting green space, wetlands, and preserves, you need to know where land-use decisions are actually being made. Local public hearings are where residents get to weigh in on specific projects. When state law narrows what local officials can decide, or moves approvals out of public hearings, it changes how and where residents can be heard. That's why we track Village Council votes, and why we're now looking at the state votes of the representative who speaks for Wellington in Tallahassee.

Rep. Anne Gerwig knows Wellington's land-use process from the inside. She served on the Village Council from 2010 to 2016 and as Mayor from 2016 to 2024. Since November 2024 she has represented Wellington and the surrounding area (District 93) in the Florida House, where she votes on the state laws that set the limits for the same kinds of local decisions she once made at Village Hall.

In the last two legislative sessions, she voted on three bills that change what cities and counties like ours can require or decide. They cover post-hurricane development rules, streamlined development of farmland surrounded by growth, and administrative approval of infill housing. She voted Yes on two and No on one. The graphic shows each vote.

Every one of these bills passed the House by a wide margin, so her vote was one of many. But it's the one Wellington residents have a direct say in, because she represents us.
